It had been almost a year since I had seen Ian and Debbie in Donostia. Ian frequently DJs and this round was at the legendary 100 Club on Oxford Street; I couldn’t wait to go.
I haven't had the privilege of seeing Debbie’s group, ‘Ye Nuns’ or Ian’s ‘The Sine Waves’ but I have witnessed the spectacle of the man himself on the decks. There is a 45’ Ian played in 2014 which I’ve loved ever since, Hank Levine and Orchestra - Image Part 1; it was the perfect soundtrack to the Gerald’s Bar pop-up in San Sebastian, which is now a permanent feature in the Gros district.
Friendly as ever, we exchanged a hug and a smile before Ian set up for the Medway Weekender at the 100 Club. His fantastically heavy LP collection always produces sonic pleasure and it was a real treat to spend time with them both. It’s pretty fun pretending to be part of the entourage and it was great to chat with them again.
