One evening Steve said to me, “why don’t you explore London in the same way you approach other cities you travel in?” Growing up in the suburbs I rarely spent much time in the centre; now I can rediscover my own capital and find the hidden gems - one of which I’ll post soon.
Famously the British Empire pillaged and plundered across the globe meaning there is a wealth of knowledge and artifacts that can be found in the various museums across London; slowly they’re finding their way home. The Victoria and Albert Museum, along with the British Museum, always have fascinating collections and currently in the V&A you can see the Lustrous Surfaces exhibition which they describe as “Featuring 110 objects located throughout the Museum, including shrines, chests and rare Latin American examples, this display highlights the varied manufacturing techniques, surface treatments, decorative styles and application around the world”
In the National Gallery you can find popular favorites such as Georges Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières, Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Claude Lorrain’s Seaport with the Embarkation of Saint Ursula; it’s a wonderful place to spend a few hours and see a rich collection.
