Day 409 Idrija - Nova Gorica

Idrija-path

Before leaving Idrija, Peter's grandmother prepared a local speciality for me; Zlikrofi is similar to tortellini and served with mutton. It is a traditional Slovenian dumpling made from a special pasta-like dough stuffed with potato and other vegetables.

I felt like I was treated as one of the family and Peter's father, Tadej, gave me great assistance and advice on how to get to Nova Gorica.

I took a morning bus to Logatec where I would change to a Prevoz for Nova Gorica. When I arrived in Logatec I waited for the Prevoz but couldn't find the driver. I called and received no answer. Finally getting through, I found out the driver did not stop even though I was 15 minutes early. There's not a lot of options from Logatec to Nova Gorica. Peter's father tried to arrange another Prevoz but this also fell through. Luckily there was a bus due in the evening. So after waiting in the tiny town all day and admiring the train station, I was finally on my way.

On the bus I saw a backpacker who was carrying what looked like a 100l backpack; I didn't know they came in such sizes. He struggled to get on and off the bus.

I was due to stay with Vanesa and her father, Darij, in the far west of Slovenia. Vanesa was out of town for the night and we would meet the following day. Back at their house Darij lovingly introduced me to his raccoon which he had picked up on his travels around the world. Slovenia is a rather odd county to find a raccoon in.
