You can't come to Slovenia without visiting Bled. Lake Bled is the famous postcard-picture featuring a church on a small island, often found with an 'inspirational', typically travel related, quote overlaid. Since I'm almost certain you've seen that I'll share with you the 11th century Bled Castle. The keen observers among you may remember a post about this location a few months ago - in which you can make out the island.
It's easy to reach Bled in the Julian Alps; it's around a 45 minute drive from the capital. Out of season it is a wondrous and chilly place. The 145 hectare pond is extremely popular but there are other lesser known bodies of water in the region. Dejan advised me to go to another that lies west of bled. That beauty I will share with you tomorrow.
