Day 404 Maribor - Ljubljana

Nik organised a Prevoz to take me back to the big city; it's a great network but don't be surprised when a driver answers in Slovenian and not English.

In the north of the city is Metelkova. Much like Denmark's Freetown Christiania, Metelkova is a community that seeks autonomy and has a huge foundation in art and free expression. That said, do not mistake this for lawlessness and at the same time it is more of a quiet squat. During the day it is a docile place, except for those metal-working, but at night the area comes alive with music, theater performances and LGBT+ events. The former army base displays an interesting and colourful subculture of the capital. Maribor also has a similar community, just on a smaller scale. It seems well rooted in the city and is considered by many as the center of Ljubljana's urban culture.
