I considered going to the Postojna caves where there is a fabled castle in the rock; however without your own transport it is very difficult to reach in the off-season. Getting to the area is fine but you need a secondary bus service to take you to the caves.

If you do wish to visit the caves, the town is easily accessible from either Trieste or Ljubljana.

I was beginning to grow tired and so limited my activity.  Even walking through a city, my senses felt like they were in overload.  Meeting a host I could either listen and respond to a conversation or take in my surroundings - but not both.

I sat on the floor of Trieste's Piazza Unità d'Italia, gorging on fuet; sometimes you've just got to park it where you stand.
