Day 367 Pristina - Mitrovicë

The town of Mitrovicë is bisected by the river Ibar, on one side are ethnic Albanians, on the other Serbians. From what I gather people do not tend to cross the bridge. A policeman approached me asking why I was standing near it, I didn't stay there long.

This picture seems quite representative of the edge of towns and cities in Kosovo, lots of development happening by primitive means and then eventually halting mid-construction. Yes, they are children hauling wood by cart with two horsepower. You see tractors in the city and markets in carparks. I finally found my source of warmth in said carpark-market, a 1990's Belgium NATO military jacket for €10; it weighs around 1.5kg and has pockets inside pockets, I imagine for magazines. I think it'll last. There is a large amount of military surplus that the locals have collected as it's often more expensive to ship home.

I was clearly the only tourist in Mitrovicë and many had a look of surprise when they saw me with my pack. Given more time I would have liked to have stayed a few days to learn and share more with the people of this town.

Side note: ATM's in Kosovo charge you €5 for withdrawal.
